Dominated by telematics device vendors offering a wide variety of devices with different
capabilities and communication standards.
Solutions are tightly integrated from application all the way to the devices, thus making
them highly customised for a particular customer and non re-deployable for another.
As a result of the high level of customisation required, the time, effort and cost needed
to implement an end-to-end solution are significant.
As a result:
Customers tend to outsource the entire end-to-end solution to a single vendor to avoid the
risk of inter-working issues between vendors due to the highly customised and closed system
architecture.
Customers are getting closed systems that are non-extensible to third-party applications
and devices.
As a result of the high cost of implementation (due to high degree of customisation),
M2M applications are accessible only to the larger enterprises.
